Christoph lehmann ObituaryVisit the Schmidt Funeral Home - Grand Parkway - Katy website to view the full obituary.Christoph was born on January 15, 1964, in Weisweil in the Klettgau region of southern Germany, the youngest of five children born to August and Johanna. Being the youngest in a large family meant he learned early how to hold his own in a conversation, how to make people laugh, how to laugh at himself, and how to make a room feel lighter just by walking into it. Those skills would stay with him for the rest of his life.He attended the University of Göttingen, where his curiosity about the natural world took hold and led him into the field of geology. Christoph had the kind of mind that loved to understand how things worked - especially the ancient stories written in layers of rock beneath our feet. That curiosity would eventually lead him to earn his PhD in geology at UC Riverside and begin a long career with Amoco and later BP that took his family to several international locations. But one of the most important discoveries of Christoph's life did not happen in a laboratory or a field study. It happened through a series of unlikely events that led him to meet Michelle, a young woman from California who studied as an exchange student at the University of Göttingen. Their story included long distances, varied locations, a few twists of fate, and the kind of connection that people spend a lifetime hoping to find. Ten years after they first met, they stood together at the Riverside Art Museum and exchanged vows on May 17, 1997.Together they built a life filled with laughter, curiosity, and more than a few great meals.Christoph never met a stranger. If you were within conversation distance, you were fair game for a story, a joke, or a thoughtful question. His sense of humor was quick and generous, the kind that made people feel welcome. At home, Christoph loved to cook. The kitchen was one of his favorite gathering places, where experiments with recipes were encouraged and where music was usually playing in the background. His taste in music was as wide and eclectic as his personality, though friends and family knew there was always a special place in his heart for Peter Frampton.Of all the roles Christoph played in life, the one that brought him the greatest joy was being a father. His pride and joy were his three children - Paul, Elena, and Ingrid - who inherited his curiosity, his humor, and his ability to see the world as a place worth exploring.Christoph lived with an open heart, a sharp mind, and a spirit that made people feel at ease. Whether he was studying the deep history of the earth, cooking a meal for people he loved, or striking up a conversation with someone he had just met, he approached life with enthusiasm and warmth. And if there is a lesson Christoph seemed to understand well, it may be this: life, like geology, is made of layers - moments of pressure, beauty, surprise, and time - all adding up to something far more meaningful than any single day.He will be deeply missed and warmly remembered by all who had the good fortune to know him.Read The Full ObituaryTo plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
