Christine Hatfield

Christine Ann Hatfield, 73, of Sanford, passed away peacefully at her home on March 5, 2026. Born on September 22, 1952, in Port Sanilac, she was the daughter of the late John DeVoogd and Thelma (Hoppenworth) DeVoogd of Carsonville. On November 3, 1984, she married Dennis Allen Hatfield at the Hope Methodist Church in Hope.

A CPA by training, Christine brought sharp intellect and meticulous care to her work. She also spent cherished years as a bus driver for Meridian Public Schools, where her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on the students she transported. She found deep joy in the outdoors, especially during her many camping trips to Drummond Island, where she created countless memories with family and friends. An avid hunter and fisher, she treasured the quiet beauty of nature and the peaceful moments spent in pursuit of game or a good catch.

Christine’s creative talents were many. She was an expert card player, a gifted baker, and a passionate gardener whose flowers brightened the lives of those around her. She loved to sing, helped with her church’s clothes closet, and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and crafting wedding and prom dresses, baby clothes, quilts, and stuffed animals. Her grandchildren will always remember the laughter and splashes shared with her at the pool.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Hatfield of Sanford; sons Jamie (Tracy) Moloy and Rick (Nicole) Hatfield, both of Midland; daughters Rebecca Boos of Midland and Kimberly (Tracy) Smith of Sanford; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her mother, Thelma; nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Muffin. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Timothy DeVoogd.
