Christina "Umpa" Renea Edwards

Christina "Umpa" Renea Edwards

July 19, 1976 March 10, 2026

Dalhart, TX

With great sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of our dear Christina Renea Roybal-Edwards, which occurred on March 10, 2026. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, and a friend whose presence filled every room she walked into. Christina didn’t just live life, she brought life with her wherever she went.

Christina's Homegoing Celebration will take place at 10 o’ clock in the morning on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Lincoln Street Baptist Church with Brother Ty Hancock leading the celebration. She will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following.

The family would like to invite you for a time of fellowship, remembrance and yes, even a little fun. This will begin at 6 o’ clock in the evening on Thursday and will take place at 424 Rock Island Ave in Dalhart. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served.

Christina's final arrangements have been entrusted to Dalhart Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Christina was born on July 19, 1976, in Raton, New Mexico, to Deborah and Richard. But from the very beginning, it was clear that Christina was going to do life her own way, including deciding who was going to raise her.

The story goes that the moment Grandpa Joe laid eyes on her, he decided right then and there that she was coming home with him and Grandma Betty. Grandpa Joe told Debbie she didn’t have enough sense to take care of her, and that was that. And if you knew Grandpa Joe, you know there wasn’t much arguing once he made up his mind.

Christina grew up wrapped around Grandpa Joe and Grandma Betty’s fingers and they were wrapped just as tightly around hers. That kind of love helped shape her into the strong, loyal, and big-hearted woman we all knew.

Christina graduated from Dalhart High School in 1995. If you ever visited Christina’s house, there was about a 99% chance you were going to sit down and watch her gymnastics videos, whether you asked or not.

She was proud of those days, flipping, cheering, and probably being the loudest and most energetic person in the room. Being a cheerleader fit her perfectly, because Christina spent her whole life bringing energy and excitement everywhere she went.

She truly was the life of the party. Christina loved to dance, laugh, and most of all make everyone else laugh. I’m sure everyone here has a story about Christina that still makes them smile. She had a way of making every moment feel bigger, louder, funnier, and more memorable.

Christina was confident, hilarious, and full of life. And if you knew her, you also know she had absolutely no filter when it came to saying what was on her mind. But that honesty was part of what made her so special.

She had a way of turning completely ordinary moments into stories people would still be laughing about years later.

But as much fun as Christina was, the most important part of her life was always her family.

Her greatest pride was her son, Kaden, who was born in April of 2001. From the moment he came into this world, he was her whole heart. She loved being his mom more than anything. Kaden was her world, and everyone who knew Christina knew just how fiercely she loved him.

And then there was Clay.

Christina married Clay Edwards in June of 2014, and if you knew them, you knew they were inseparable. Christina loved the ranch life with Clay, riding horses, being outside, and going arrowhead hunting together. Clay was her partner in everything. Honestly, she could barely go a few hours without him.

He was her person, her teammate, and the love of her life.

And the person who meant the absolute world to Christina was her mom, Debbie.

Debbie wasn’t just her mom; she was her best friend. The two of them looked so much alike that you always knew Christina was Debbie’s daughter. Christina talked to her every single day. No matter what was going on, Debbie was the first person she called. She told her everything, every story, every detail.

Their bond was something truly special, and it was one of the most important relationships in Christina’s life.

Christina loved deeply, and she loved loudly.

Her siblings meant everything to her, Frankie, Isaac, Jason, and Amanda. No matter what life brought, that bond was always there.

And she also had her circle: Larisa, or as Christina called her, “La Rita,” Christine, Krista, and Mark. The people who were always by Christina’s side. Even when she kicked them out, they knew she didn’t really mean it.

That was Christina.

A big personality, big emotions, and an even bigger heart.

She loved animals. She loved being outside, fishing, decorating, arrowhead hunting, and spending time ranching with Clay. And she loved the people in her life with everything she had.

If Christina loved you, you knew it.

She didn’t do anything halfway, not her laughter, not her opinions, and definitely not her love.

Christina is survived by her loving husband, Clay Edwards of Tucumcari, New Mexico; her son, Kaden Awe of Jayton, Texas; her mother, Debbie Ortiz of Pueblo, Colorado; her siblings Frankie Fuentes of Dalhart, Texas, Isaac (Patricia) Fuentes of Lubbock, Texas, Jason Fuentes of Pueblo, Colorado, and Amanda (Ryan) Rodriguez of Pueblo, Colorado; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rick; her grandparents, Joe and Betty Montoya; her aunts Ila Rojas, Cathy Franks, and Edith Lawrence; her uncle Mike Montoya; her cousins D.J. Rojas and Sean Montoya; and other beloved relatives.

While our hearts are broken, we know the best way to honor Christina is to remember her the way she lived, with laughter, with love, and maybe even a little dancing.

Christina, we will miss your voice, your stories, your dancing, and that wild, beautiful spirit that made you who you were.

Life is going to feel a lot quieter without you.

But we promise we will keep telling your stories, laughing at your jokes, and remembering you exactly the way you would want us to, loudly, lovingly, and with a little bit of attitude.

And knowing you, you’re probably already up there giving someone a piece of your mind.

And honestly, we wouldn’t expect anything less.

We love you, Christina.Always.
