Shell Knob, MO
Chloe Gibbons, 92, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away on March 12, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 16, 1933, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to Elmore and Neva (Ford) Kassel, Chloe lived a life marked by remarkable energy and enthusiasm. She married John E. Gibbons on May 27, 1978, in Shell Knob; he preceded her in death. A retired school teacher and former resort owner, Chloe was a longtime member of Central Community Methodist Church. Known affectionately as “The Energizer Bunny,” she embraced every adventure with vigor, whether competing in solar car races across the country, riding jet skis on the lake, or sharing the beauty of the Ozarks as a Branson tour guide.
Deeply involved in her community, Chloe handled fish for the Homer Sloan Bass Tournament, danced with the Table Rockettes line dancers, and assisted with boat shows for the Shell Knob Chamber for many years. Even in her later years, she remained active, continuing to clean at a local resort. Her simple motto, “Keep moving,” defined the way she lived, inspiring all who knew her.
Chloe is survived by her three sons, Dirk Dietz and his wife Janice of O’Fallon, Missouri, Drew Dietz and his wife Melinda of Jackson, Missouri, and Drake Dietz and his wife Denise of Bloomington, Minnesota; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Ruth Jean Lange of Jackson, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gibbons; her parents; and her brother, EW Kassel.
