February 8, 1946— March 12, 2026
Martinez, GA
Cheryl Lawler Stewart of Martinez, Georgia, passed away on March 12, 2026. Born on February 8, 1946, in Griffin, Georgia, to Samuel Raymond Lawler Sr. and Ethel Loraine Grantham Lawler, she graduated from Griffin High School. It was there she met the love of her life, Ira Douglas Stewart, to whom she was married for 45 years before his passing.
Cheryl and Ira raised two sons, Scott and Jason, whom she cherished deeply, always placing their needs above her own. She embraced every friend of her sons as one of her own and extended that same loving care to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. With a natural motherly instinct, she became a protector and provider for all those she loved. For nearly 30 years, Cheryl worked as a childcare provider in Martinez, nurturing countless children through their early years and treating each one as her own. Her warm and giving spirit made her a beloved figure in many families.
A longtime active member of Martinez Baptist Church, Cheryl lived her faith through a servant’s heart. She is survived by her sons, Scott Stewart (Lynda) and Jason Stewart (Beth); her grandchildren, Jacob Stewart (Natalie), Brandyn Roberson, Casey Stewart, Brent Roberson (Chastity), Harley Carter (Jason), Baylee Roberson (Alliegh), and Brice Stewart; eight great-grandchildren, the youngest born on March 9, 2026; her sister, Jan Helton of Griffin, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Sonny Lawler.
Cheryl’s legacy is one of deep faith, unconditional love, and quiet service to others. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many children whose lives she gently shaped.
