Cheryl Fontaine

Cheryl Marie Fontaine, 84, of West Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, under hospice care at SMP Health - St. Catherine North in Fargo.

Born on February 6, 1942, in Grand Forks, ND, to Pete and Adella (Shirek) Evans, Cheryl grew up attending St. Michael's Elementary School and Saint James High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, Jerry Quentin Fontaine. They married on November 18, 1961, and made their home in Grand Forks, raising their family there. Cheryl worked in finance and accounting at the Grand Forks Air Force Base and later as a business manager at the YMCA in Grand Forks. In 1990, she and Jerry moved to Maple Lake, Minnesota, where she was employed at Polk County Social Services until her retirement. The couple returned to North Dakota in 2007, settling in West Fargo.

Cheryl found joy in ceramics, cross stitching, reading, antiquing, and gathering with family and friends for cards. She is survived by her daughter Joan (Michael) Close of Simpsonville, SC; her son Jerry Albert (Delcy) Fontaine of West Fargo, ND; five grandchildren, Kathleen (Austin) Lasater, Molly (Trent) Middlebrough, Tyler Fontaine, Maeghan Fontaine, and Paige Shearer; her sister Janice Hoffman of Cudahy, WI; a niece; and several nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Adella Evans; her husband, Jerry Quentin Fontaine; and her son, Jeffrey Peter Fontaine.
