Charlotte Sargent

1938 — 2026

El Dorado, KS

Charlotte Sargent, 87, of El Dorado, Kansas, passed away on March 12, 2026. Born on July 3, 1938, in Wichita, Kansas, to Lester “Dick” Ferguson and Lula “Ruth” (Wood) Jones, she grew up in the Winfield and El Dorado areas and graduated from El Dorado High School with the Class of 1956.

Charlotte married Jarold D. Archer on August 13, 1956, and together they had three children: Dean, Petrea, and Raymond. After Jarold’s passing in 1960, she married Bruce Terry Sargent on February 17, 1962, in El Dorado. They shared 64 years of marriage and welcomed two more children, Terrie and Byron. A longtime bookkeeper, Charlotte was known for her diligence and attention to detail. She was an enthusiastic sports spectator who cheered loudly for her children in every sport they played, and she and Bruce enjoyed many years of road rallies and autocross, earning numerous first-place trophies together. A member of the Hudson Car Club, she remained outgoing and sociable throughout her life, quickly befriending others and taking genuine interest in their stories. Above all, Charlotte was devoted to her family, always keeping her door open to anyone in need of shelter, love, or encouragement.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Sargent; her children, Petrea (Kent) Coleman, Raymond (Sue) Archer, Terrie (Orlin) Harms, and Byron (Denise) Sargent; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Jarold Dean Archer Sr., and her eldest son Jarold Dean Archer Jr.
