Charlotte J. Edwards, 97, of Texico, Illinois, passed away on March 12, 2026, at SSM Good Samaritan in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Born on October 1, 1928, in Apalachicola, Florida, to Homer Leonard Harris and Hazel Annie Harris, she lived a life deeply rooted in devotion to family, faith, and the friends who became family.
Charlotte was first married to John Carrol Hoit, with whom she lived in Memphis, Tennessee, and later Belleville, Illinois. After his passing, she shared forty-eight years of marriage with Paul Edwards. Together they cared for her parents in their Millstadt, Illinois, home, where her mother lived until the age of 95. In 2004, Charlotte and Paul moved to Texico, where she found a warm and supportive community that embraced her fully.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Beth Ann Gill of Newport News, Virginia, and her sisters, Louise Jernigan and Eunice Allan. She was preceded in death by her brother, Homer Harris Jr., her sister Agnes Carol Smith, and her stepsons Paul David Edwards and Timothy Edwards.
Charlotte faithfully attended Donoho Prairie Church, where she was cherished by the minister and congregation. She expressed deep gratitude for the spiritual home and friendships that enriched her later years. She dearly loved God, her family, and her many friends, and was loved deeply in return.
