Charlotte Henderson
January 19, 1934— March 5, 2026
Milroy, IN
Charlotte Henderson, 92, a lifelong resident of Rush County, passed peacefully in her Milroy home, the house where she had raised her family. The middle of three sisters, she was born to Norman and Dorothy Heath on the family farmstead before it had electricity. Growing up, she preferred working in the fields alongside her father to almost any other pursuit. She attended elementary school in Moscow and graduated from Milroy High School in 1952.
In 1953, Charlotte married her school sweetheart, James (Jim) Henderson. Their courtship had included many evenings of roller dancing in a barn located halfway between their homes, the same barn that later gave Skating Rink Road its name. Beginning in the mid-1950s, they raised two sons, James (Mike) and Mark. While the boys were in school, Charlotte worked as the office manager of the fertilizer plant operated by her father-in-law, Howard.
A longtime member of the Milroy Monday Study group and the Order of the Eastern Star, Charlotte belonged to the Milroy United Methodist Church her entire adult life and served as its treasurer for many years. She remained an avid basketball fan throughout her life and, in recent years, took special pleasure in following the games of local college teams.
Charlotte is survived by her son Mark, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Katie and Ellen, her husband Jim, and her son Mike.
