Charlotte Ethel Slagle

Passed March 8, 2026

Chestertown, MD

Charlotte Ethel Slagle, age 93, of Chestertown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving children. Born in Chestertown on December 20, 1932, she was the youngest of eleven children born to the late Alexander “Al” and Charlotte “Lottie” (Reed) Taylor. A graduate of Chestertown High School with the class of 1951, Charlotte began her working life as a Saturday girl at Fox’s Department Store and as a soda jerk at Gill Brothers. In 1950 she joined the C&P Telephone Company as a telephone operator, where she enjoyed a long career until her retirement in 1982.

Charlotte remained deeply connected to her community throughout her life. She was an active member of the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the Telephone Pioneers of America. She volunteered at Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital as a TV clerk and gave many years of dedicated service to the Nearly New Shoppe, where she eventually served as supervisor until retiring in 2020. A woman of strong faith, she was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In her younger years she enjoyed playing in the Duckpin Bowling League and maintained an extensive collection of cookbooks, especially those published by local organizations.

In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Lawrence Edward Slagle, Sr., and all ten of her siblings: Charles “Buck” Taylor, George “Buddy” Taylor, Martha Anderson, Olin “Zeke” Taylor, Howard “Nubby” Taylor, Eben “Perks” Taylor, Eunice Frank, Frances “Renee” Coxon, Sarah Taylor, and Frank “Frankie” Taylor. She is survived by her children, Gay Slagle, Julie Slagle, and Lawrence Edward “Larry” Slagle, Jr., along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, and her beloved Chihuahua, Daisy.
