May 10, 1936— March 9, 2026
Bennett, NC
Charlie Thomas “Tommy” Motes, 89, of Bennett, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026 at his home. Born in Richmond County on May 10, 1936 to Richard Daniel Motes and Etta Mae Little Motes, Tommy served in the U.S. Army before beginning a long career in North Carolina. He worked for North Carolina Natural Gas and later for Bahnson Service Company, where he retired as superintendent after 40 years of dedicated service.
Tommy was a longtime member of Fall Creek Baptist Church. He found simple joys in fishing, reading, and making homemade ice cream, and he was a charter member of the Harpers Crossroads Order of the Roundtable. Above all, he cherished his family and the time spent with them.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret A. Motes and Katie L. Wentland, and his brothers, Joseph Daniel Motes and Clifford H. Motes.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Louise Brewer Motes, of the home; his sister, Barbara M. Coon, of Southern Pines; and a host of family and friends. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Liberty Hospice, particularly Sherrie and Monique, for the compassionate care they provided.
