He was a devoted Christian man who loved the Lord and looked forward to eternity with his Savior. Charlie was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his generous spirit, and the joy he brought to those around him. Known for his great sense of humor and his infectious laugh, he was a loyal friend and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.Charlie was born on May 2, 1931, in Cocke County, Tennessee to Mack and Polly Holt. In 1953 he married the love of his life, Queenie, and together they shared 70 wonderful years of marriage before her sudden passing in 2024. Over the years they made their home in Poquoson and Tabb, Virginia before settling in Gloucester County, Virginia, where they built a life centered around family, faith, and friendship.Charlie was a gifted and highly respected mechanic throughout his life. Those who knew him often said, "If Charlie couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed." During his more than forty-year career, he worked at Atlantic Marine Industrial Distributors and Langley Field before retiring from Bowditch Ford in 1993. Even after his retirement, he continued to spend countless hours in his garage, doing what he loved most-working with his hands and helping others repair what was broken.Charlie was a longtime member of Gloucester Point Baptist Church and faithfully attended the Curtis Thomas Sunday School Class. His faith and fellowship with his church family were important parts of his life. Prior to joining GPBC, Charlie and Queenie were active members of Bethel Baptist Church in Tabb. While there, Charlie worked to restore former school buses and he and Queenie helped begin the church bus ministry.Outside of work, Charlie enjoyed country and bluegrass music, camping, and spending time in his garage working on projects. Above all else, he loved sharing time with his family and took great pride in each of them.Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Queenie Holt; his parents, Mack and Polly Holt; his brothers Wes, Dave, and Pete Holt; and his sister Ruth.He is survived by his sons, Darrell of Gloucester and Jerry (Jodee) of Grants Pass, Oregon, as well as his daughters Connie Stewart (Brian) of Hayes and Cathy Walton of Hayes. Together, Charlie and Queenie were blessed with eleven grandchildren: Michael Holt (Bethany), Amy Holt, Jennifer Holt (Armando Munoz), Heather Petersen, Christopher Holt, Jeremy Holt, Megan Evans (Jaycob), Alyssa Owens, Lindsay Lopez (Alfredo), Colin Walton (Wendi), and Catelyn Pemberton. In addition, he leaves behind eighteen cherished great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.Charlie passed peacefully at Commonwealth Senior Living - Gloucester House after a brief illness.The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff and friends at Commonwealth Senior Living -Gloucester House, Amedisys Hospice and Attend Home Care for their kindness, compassion, and care.The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 10:30 AM -11:30 AM at Gloucester Point Baptist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:30 AM. Guests are cordially invited to join the family for a meal in the church fellowship hall following the service. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Memorial Park in Hampton, VA.
