Charlie Murphy Rich

Charlie Murphy Rich, 77, of Stanley, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on March 14, 2026. Born in New Hanover County, he was the son of the late Murphy and Carrie Wheeler Rich. He was preceded in death by his sister, Pat Baxley, and brothers Bobby Rich and Bill Rich.

Charlie served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1972, defending his country during the Vietnam War. A longtime member and deacon of Mariposa Baptist Church, he later retired from Duke Energy after many years of dedicated service. He was known for his quiet strength, steadfast faith, and deep devotion to his family.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Crisp Rich; his son, Tim Rich (Tara) of Gastonia; his daughter, Carrie Rich Foxx (Jeff) of Conover; and his cherished granddaughters, Murphy, Caroline, Mary Kate, Madi, and Merida. He is also survived by his brother, Tommy Rich of San Francisco, California; his sister, Linda Mundy of Pine Mountain Valley, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews who will remember him with great affection.
