He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 77 years, Barbara Sims, son Cary Sims, mother Clara Reed, grandmother Maude Reed, sister Dorothy Lee (Doby) Swindle, and son-in-law JC Smith, Charles is survived by his daughters Gwen (Dan) Crow and Barrie Smith, daughter-in-law Karen Sims, cousin Barbara Jean (Archie) Howell, grandchildren Lanessa (Alex) Bueno, Michelle Smith, Tracy Taylor, and Kelly (Mickey) Parrish, great-grandchildren Taylor (Cody) Coburn, Drew Ostrander, Jakob Doster, Kailee Boleyjack, Lucas Bueno, Erin Ostrander, Nina Bueno, Caden Parrish, and Gracie Davis, and great-great-grandchildren Whrenlee Bersch and Charlotte Coburn.
Charles lived most of his life in the Nashville area, residing in Mt. Juliet for the past 35 years. He enjoyed a long and successful career in sales that spanned more than four decades, where his kindness, quick wit, and genuine friendship left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He never met a stranger and was respected and loved by all who knew him. A gifted storyteller, he was equally known as a talented handyman who could fix or build anything. His patience and steady presence made him the person family, friends, and church members turned to in times of need.
Above all, Charles cherished his family and his faith. He married Barbara in 1948 at the age of 18, and together they raised three children and built a full and happy life. His love, devotion, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
