Austin, IN

Charles Wayne Haynes, a dedicated sawmill heavy machine operator known for his strong-willed nature and engaging humor, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at his residence in Austin, Indiana. Born on June 8, 1970, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Charles embodied a spirit of resilience and joy throughout his life.

Charles was a long-standing member of Elevation Church in Scottsburg, where his warm personality shone brightly. He was often seen greeting people at the door, a small act that reflected his welcoming nature and deep connection to his church community. Beyond his work, Charles had a passion for building projects, finding both satisfaction and creative release in bringing structures to life. Most of all, he cherished family time, which he embraced with unwavering enthusiasm.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Leona Becht Haynes, and their children: Allen Haynes and his wife Kay of Kentucky; Daniel Haynes of Kentucky; Anthony Wilfong of Austin, Indiana; Cody Wilfong of Crothersville, Indiana; Amy Rudneck and her husband Charles of Kentucky; Jessica Haynes of Kentucky; Lindsay Collings and her husband Jake of Scottsburg, Indiana; Sandra Jonathon of Scottsburg, Indiana; and Aurora Blankenship of Austin, Indiana. Charles was also a proud grandfather to twenty-five grandchildren, a legacy of love and family cohesion.

Charles’s surviving siblings include his brother Darryl Glen and sister Missy of Kentucky, along with sisters Willodean Cross, Donna Haynes, and Debbie Hayes, all of Kentucky. They, along with his extended family and friends, will surely miss his jokes, his steadfast will, and the laughter he brought into many lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene Haynes and Enola Lindsey Haynes, and siblings Buck Haynes, Mary Haynes, Lynn Haynes, and Loretta Embry.

Charles Wayne Haynes leaves behind a rich legacy marked by his dedication, humor, and love. His memory will remain cherished by all who knew him, as a man who built not only with his hands but with his heart.
