Charles Stewart lived a simple and meaningful life, marked by quiet dedication to his family and community. He married Vineta Lamb in 2002 and retired in 2004 after many years as a mechanic with MTA Bus Lines. A proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he carried the experiences of his service with dignity throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Bell Stewart, his son James Charles Stewart, and his sisters Paulette, Lavon, and Geraldine. Charles is survived by his wife, Vineta; his children, Connie (Kenny) Haskell, Kelly Pryor, Kimberly (John) Gillespie, Robert Sumpter, Jackie (Darcy) Stewart, Angel Stewart, and James Stewart; 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; his sister Kinda; and many nieces and nephews.
To those who knew him, Charles was a blessing and a steady presence in his neighborhood, affectionately regarded as the neighborhood grandpa. His gentle spirit and generous heart left a lasting impression on all whose lives he touched.
