Charles Rumberg

December 24, 1964 March 11, 2026

Poland, OH

Charles C. Rumberg of Poland, Ohio, died on March 11, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Poland on December 24, 1964, he was the son of George Carl Rumberg, Jr. and his wife.

A 1983 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, Charles went on to earn a degree in architecture and interior design from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He began his career in New York City with Schaefer Cassety, Inc., where he served as project manager for the new Stuyvesant High School in Battery Park City. In 1990 he married Laura J. Buchsieb of Cambridge, Ohio, and the couple returned to the Mahoning Valley, where he joined the family-owned Mahoning Paint Corporation. He advanced from quality assurance manager to vice president of operations and became president in 1998. Under his leadership the company achieved ISO 9001 certification. He later sold the business to IVC Industrial Coatings, worked as a sales representative, and retired in 2016.

Deeply committed to his community, Charles served in numerous leadership roles, including as a member of the Poland Rotary, founding member and treasurer of the Poland Preservation Society, board member of the Stambaugh Pillars, chairman of the Poland Village Architectural Review Board for three terms, and village councilman. He was instrumental in historic preservation efforts, the renovation of the village hall, the restoration of the fountain garden, and the fundraising campaign for the new Poland Library. He also served as president of the Poland Forest Foundation, trustee and vice president of the Poland Schools Foundation, trustee of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, and board member of CASTLO. A lifelong member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Youngstown, he served two terms on the vestry and was a lay reader, usher, chalice bearer, and choir member. In 2018 he was awarded the Vestry Silver Cross for his dedicated service.

Above all, Charles cherished his role as a father. He is survived by his children, Emma W. Rumberg of New York City, Anna Grace (Will) Reedy of Salt Lake City, Lucia R. Perry of New York City, and George C. Rumberg III of Pittsburgh; his sister, Susan Flasco of Columbiana; and his niece, Constance Van Scoter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jennifer Rumberg Van Scoter, and his former wife Laura Stephens.
