Charles Ray Anderson

Clancy, MT

Charles Ray Anderson, known warmly as Chuck to his family and friends, passed away early on the morning of February 28, 2026, at Elkhorn Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Clancy, Montana, following a two-year battle with mesothelioma. He was 84 years old.

Born on May 26, 1941, in Wallace, Idaho, alongside his twin sister Charlene, Chuck was the fourth child of Ray and Mayme Anderson. He grew up in Osburn and attended school there through high school. At 15, he began working as a flower delivery boy for Dunkers Garden, where his good nature and sense of humor brought cheer to the community. After graduation, he joined the Bunker Hill Company in Kellogg, Idaho, starting as a laborer before advancing to a skilled maintenance mechanic role. Over nearly 23 years, he became proficient in welding, pipe fitting, and mechanical maintenance. A dedicated union man, he stood with his fellow workers through every challenge and took great pleasure in sharing stories from those years.

Chuck met the love of his life, Barbara Wallace, and they married on October 28, 1966. They shared nearly 40 years together until her passing. He often said that meeting Barbara and committing his life to Jesus Christ kept him from many troubles. When the mining industry declined, Chuck, Barbara, and their sons Tony and Gary moved to Superior, Montana. There he worked as a millwright at Diamond International’s Superior timber mill for 11 years until its closure in 1994. He then continued his career at Tricon Timber’s mill in St. Regis, Montana, until his retirement in 2005 at the age of 64.

Chuck found joy in target shooting, hunting, fishing, and camping. He held a deep love for music, playing guitar, singing with his rich baritone at church gatherings, and simply listening. He cherished good food and drink, lively conversations with friends, and lifting others’ spirits with his smile. In his final days, he expressed deep gratitude for his beautiful family, meaningful work, and a life filled with joyous memories.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Anderson and his sisters Joyce, Donna, and Charlene. Chuck is survived by his sons, Tony Anderson and Gary Anderson.
