Charles Forbes ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Mortimer Funeral Home - Greenville on Mar. 16, 2026.Charles Milton Forbes Age 88, of Isola, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home on March 14, 2026. Born on June 13, 1937, to Elmer and Ethel Powell Forbes. Milton lived a life full of love, dedication, and community. His life was forever changed when he married his high school sweetheart, Nellie Sue Bailey, on August 2, 1958. He often fondly recalled the moment he first noticed her in the school lunch room and she threatened to throw a glass of water on him for making a flirtatious comment, and from there, their beautiful journey together began. Milton enlisted in the United States Army in 1960 and served two years, where he served as a chemical specialist at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama. After leaving the Army, Milton and Sue settled in Isola, Mississippi, where they raised their family and created a life full of cherished memories. Milton proudly served the Isola community for 50 years as the rural letter carrier for Route 1 at the Isola Post Office. He loved his job, always eager to catch up with familiar faces and be a part of his beloved town. His daily route was never just a job, it was a chance to connect with others. A favorite stop was Hunter's Grocery, where he'd enjoy a cold Coke and a pack of Nabs. Whether passing by Cole Lake to see if the fish were biting or glancing out the window scouting out new spots for his traps, Milton always found joy in the little things. As he grew older, many would ask when he planned to retire, and his answer was always the same: "Why would I retire from doing what I love."In addition to his work, Milton and Sue shared a deep love for their community. They took great pride in their yard and spent countless hours caring for and maintaining the local cemeteries. They were long-time members of First Baptist Church in Belzoni, Mississippi, where Milton was part of the Men's Sunday School Class. It was here that he deepened his faith and built lasting friendships that meant the world to him.Milton's legacy is one of love, service, and unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and community. He will be greatly missed, but his spirit and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.Milton is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sue Bailey Forbes; his daughter, Debbie Forbes Willoughby; and his siblings: Gladys Walker, Ada Johnson, Franklin Forbes, and Roy Forbes. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Forbes Lott (Mel) of Midlothian, TX; grandchildren, Timothy Willoughby (Magen) of Louise, MS, Ashley McPhail (Marcus) of Madison, MS, and Haley Winsett (Darren) of Little Elm, TX; great-grandchildren, Bratton and Peyton Willoughby of Starkville, MS, Levi and Benjamin McPhail of Madison, MS, and Lainey Winsett of Little Elm, TX; his sisters, Billie Robertson of Belzoni, MS, Hilda Hales of Flowood, MS, and Evelyn Walker (William) of Flowood, MS; his sisters-in-law, Shirley Forbes of Isola, MS, and Kathryn "Kat" Lambert of Gulfport, MS; His cherished family friends, the Fulton family of Madison, MS and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church of Belzoni, P.O.
