Annville, KY
Charles L. Hillard, of Annville, Kentucky, was born on March 13, 1932, on Moore’s Creek in Jackson County, Kentucky, the son of the late Jake Hellard and Gertrude Simpson Hillard. He was married to his beloved wife, Phyllis Messer Hillard, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by two loving children, Charles Andrew “Andy” Hillard of Keavy, Kentucky, and Mary Kay Trosper and her husband Tom of Annville; two cherished granddaughters, Rebecca Trosper and Elizabeth Trosper; and a host of other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A faithful and devoted member of McWhorter Christian Church, Charles found great joy in worship and fellowship there. He dedicated 38 years to education as a teacher at Laurel County Vocational School, where he taught carpentry with pride. He earned his Master’s Degree in Teaching from Eastern Kentucky University and later achieved Rank I certification from Union College. Known for his strong work ethic, he was also a farmer and a skilled woodworker who took pleasure in working with his hands. Above all, he cherished his family, especially the time spent with his granddaughters, teaching them the traditional ways he held dear. Friendly and outgoing, Charles never met a stranger and loved striking up conversations with everyone he encountered.
Charles L. Hillard passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2026, at the age of 93 years, 11 months, and 28 days. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to his caregiver, Jean Marshall, who became like family to them.
