He was born on January 25, 1944 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Cordell and Pauline Dowell.Charles retired after 44.5 years of service from Allison Transmission having worked from July 12, 1962 until December 31, 2006. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union #933.He enjoyed camping, fishing, and his many pets over the years. He also loved reading the paper and working the crossword puzzles.Survivors include his son, Charles L. Dowell, Jr. (Pam); daughter, Cheryl (Dowell) Hedden (Paul); grandchildren, Charles L. Dowell, III, Suzanne Dowell, and Jordan Hedden.He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Suella " Potsie" Dowell and his sister, Annette Holt.Visitation will be held from 4pm - 8pm Thursday at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00pm Friday, March 13, 2026.
