Bethlehem, PA
Charles “Chuck” J. Achenzie, Jr., 73, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, died on March 13, 2026, at his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was the husband of Deborah “Debbie” M. (Kammetler) Achenzie. Born in Fountain Hill, Pennsylvania, Chuck was the son of the late Charles J. Achenzie, Sr. and the late Geraldine (Achey) Achenzie.
He grew up in Hellertown, graduating from Hellertown High School in 1970, where he proudly played in the band. He later performed with the Easton Chessman and Scarlet Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, his natural talent on the trumpet bringing him joy throughout his youth. After attending Bethlehem Business School, Chuck graduated from the Allentown Police Academy and served with distinction as a City of Bethlehem Police Officer for 25 years, retiring as a Sergeant. He was the first officer assigned to the city’s mobile substation and took great pride in building connections within the community. Unable to stay away from the city he loved, he later worked for the City of Bethlehem Water Department for twelve years before retiring a second time.
In retirement, Chuck served as President of the Allentown Dog Training Club for the past 14 years and remained an active member of the Bethlehem Fraternal Order of Police. An avid bowler and dart player, he participated in numerous leagues throughout the Lehigh Valley and enjoyed Monday nights with his dart team. Above all, he was a lifelong coach. He coached football for the Bethlehem Steelers, where he also served as board president, as well as softball and baseball at Northwest Little League, Liberty High School JV softball, and the Northampton Athletic Association. He cherished his time coaching his granddaughter and serving as assistant coach for his daughter. Chuck loved sharing stories of his athletes and took the deepest pride in the positive impact he had on their lives. He adored high school sports and treasured Friday nights spent with family in the stands.
Chuck found his greatest happiness in his family. He was a devoted husband to his childhood sweetheart and soul mate, Debbie, with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage and 56 years together. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Jennifer Eisenhart and her husband Wallace of Northampton; his son, Jeffrey Achenzie and his wife Treasure Walker of Breinigsville; and his five beloved grandchildren, Madison, Caige, and Brody Eisenhart, and Camryn and Charlie Achenzie III, who will always remember their Pappy cheering for them from the bleachers, sidelines, and audience. He was predeceased by his sisters, Constance Wirth and Carol Papovich.
