March 9, 1948— March 13, 2026
Amarillo, TX
Charles "Chuck" I. Houseman, age 78 formerly of Pampa, died March 13, 2026 in Amarillo at his home.
The funeral will be on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 South Georgia, Amarillo. The Rev. Byron Williamson of the First Baptist Church in Pampa will officiate. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.
Chuck was born on March 9, 1948, to his parents, Charles Arnold and Reda Maxine Hutchins Houseman. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1966. Shortly after high school, Chuck proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
After returning from the war, he began working at Levi Strauss in Amarillo. As fate would have it, he met the lovely Martha “Marti” Sloss. The two were married after just three short months on October 21, 1972, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Amarillo. Their love story grew to include their precious daughter, Amy, and would span the next fifty-three years.
Chuck later worked as an operator at the Celanese Chemical Plant for 27 years before retiring in 2008.
You couldn’t have Chuck without Marti, and you couldn’t have Marti without Chuck—they were truly two peas in a pod and did everything together. One of their favorite pastimes was relaxing and fishing at their favorite spot in Red River. They also enjoyed traveling, especially to Yellowstone, which they visited six times, as well as Glacier National Park and the Dakotas.
Chuck was a kind, compassionate, and joyful man. He always found the bright side in everything and in every trial he faced. His smile rarely left his face. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. From the time Amy could walk, he taught her to fish, and he did the same for his grandson when he came along. Chuck was enormously proud of Marti as his wife and of the family they built together, which was his greatest joy.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lewis Houseman.
Chuck is survived by his devoted wife Marti; his daughter Amy Wills and her husband Floyd of Amarillo; a sister Reda Tipton and her husband Jim; and his cherished grandson, Cole all of Amarillo.
The family suggests that memorials be made in memory of Chuck to the First Baptist Church of Pampa, 203 N West St, Pampa, TX 79065
