Charles “Bob” Hines, 84, of Benton, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at Baptist Health Paducah, surrounded by his devoted wife, Jane, and loving family members.
A proud Vanderbilt University graduate, Bob earned a scholarship in Chemical Engineering and was one of the five starters on the university’s basketball team. He enjoyed a long career with USEC before retiring. For two and a half years, he and Jane traveled together while working for Toby Tours. Deeply active in the Benton Church of Christ, Bob led many enjoyable trips for seniors, drove a school bus for Marshall County for ten years—including the last three years transporting children with special needs, a role he cherished—and taught the GED program through the Adult Learning Center for five years, helping numerous students earn their diplomas. He was a member of the Benton Church of Christ and the Beekeepers Organization, and a former member of the Calvert City Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Vasseur Green Hines; son, Kelly Hines (Rachel); daughter, Dawn Oden (Roger); grandson, Zack Oden and Wesley Hines; granddaughter, Alexis Hines; stepson, Randy Green (Beth); stepdaughter, Michelle David; step-grandson, Jesse Green (Teri), Seth Rickard (Megan), Tanner Rickard (Morgan); step-granddaughter, Rebecca Baker (Garth), Randi Knight (Vince), Laura Jones (Andrew); 12 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Judy Kirkpatrick (Al); brother, Doug Hines (Cathy); and nieces, Lisa, Cary and Kim. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Daisy Hines, and granddaughter, Erin Hines.
