Charles Ernest Quade

July 13, 1963 March 8, 2026

Dallas, TX

Charles Ernest Quade, known to all as Charlie, died in Dallas, Texas on March 8, 2026, at the age of 62. Born on July 13, 1963, in Wilmington, Delaware, he grew up in Lubbock, Texas. He earned both a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1984 and a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering in 1988 from the University of Texas in Austin. Charlie began his career with the TxDOT Bridge Division in Austin before joining Huitt-Zollars, Inc. in Dallas, where he worked for 34 years. A gifted structural engineer, he helped design several notable bridges across Texas and beyond, including the Margaret Hunt Hill and Margaret McDermott bridges, leaving a lasting mark on the Dallas skyline.

Charlie’s greatest joys came from sailing, travel, and time spent with family. He learned to sail as a boy from his father and carried that passion into adulthood, competing in Snipe regattas. He shared this love with his wife, Kimberly, serving as captain while she was first mate on their many regatta adventures. Later, they upgraded to a larger Catalina sailboat on Lake Grapevine and expanded the crew. Charlie delighted in introducing friends and family to sailing, chartering boats to explore new waters and creating cherished memories. An avid sports fan, he followed the Texas Longhorns and Dallas teams and fondly recalled his days playing basketball at Lubbock High School. He also found pleasure in live music, good books, Broadway shows, stand-up comedy, and lively conversations with friends. Those who knew him will remember his sharp humor, remarkable memory, and warm, gregarious spirit.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kimberly; daughter Cicely Webb and her husband Jake, and their daughter Carly Webb; daughter Sydney Quade; son Charles Brady Quade; his mother, Jane Quade; sisters Mary Waller, Margaret Taylor, and Martha Maeder; brother James “Jimmie” Quade; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Richard Quade.
