Charles Edgard Oates of West Amwell, NJ, died on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, NJ. He was 57 years old.Born in Somerville, NJ, Chuck grew up in Bridgewater. He was a graduate of Bridgewater High School and Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg. Chuck and his wife Sandra moved to West Amwell in 2016.Chuck was a gifted artist. He had a great appreciation for color, shape and beauty. Professionally he worked as a graphic artist in all media. Personally he created his own artwork in oils and acrylics on canvas. Chuck's paintings were recently featured in a successful show in Frenchtown. Chuck was also a gifted bass guitarist.Chuck was a good friend to many. He was a gentle, kind, generous soul. He had a great sense of humor. You couldn't have a better friend than Chuck Oates.Chuck is survived by his wife Sandra Jean Koble Oates, his sons Alec of Raritan and Trevor of Somerville, his father Charles Oates of Tewksbury, NJ, his mother Madeleine Antoine Franklin and her husband William of Edison, NJ; his brother Robert Oates and his wife Jennifer Sweeney of Mt. Holly, NJ; his step-siblings Raymond Franklin and his wife Michele of Diablo, CA and Pamela Rivera and her husband Marvin of High Bridge, NJ; his aunt Gisele Tobin of Bloomsburg, PA; and his cousins Carly Magill and her husband Jared of Bloomsburg, PA and Tom Tobin and his fiancé Liz of Selma, NC.Chuck's memory will be cherished by his family, his many friends and the many people who were touched by his kindness, humor and artistic talents.Funeral services will be private.Arrangements are under the direction of the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, Lambertville, NJ.
