Hendersonville, NC
Charles “Charlie” Meek Jr. passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, in Hendersonville, North Carolina, at the age of 98. Born on February 10, 1928, in Dover, Ohio, he lived a long and fulfilling life centered on his deep devotion to family, his professional integrity, and his abiding love for the mountains.
Charlie enjoyed a distinguished 31-year career as Vice President Controller at Clevite Corporation, where he was known for his leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence. A proud veteran, he served his country as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Army. In 1985, he moved to Maggie Valley, North Carolina, making his home in the Blue Ridge Mountains for 27 years before relocating to Hendersonville in 2015. He found great joy in hiking and walking around Lake Junaluska, often quoting John Muir’s words, “The mountains are calling and I must go,” which perfectly captured his spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Myrtle Meek. Charlie is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra Meek; his children, Charles Curtis Meek III and his wife Susan, Melodie Meek, Gregory Meek and his wife Danna, and Melinda Jencson and her husband David; his grandchildren, Charles C. Meek IV and his wife Lori, Jon Meek, Rebecca Meek and her partner Rick Philbrick, Hannah Jencson, and Sarah Jencson; and his two great-grandchildren, Zachery and Emma Philbrick, who brought him special joy.
