Charles “Chuck” P. Sandell Jr. passed away on March 5, 2026, at the age of 76 after complications from dementia. Born on May 16, 1949, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma, Washington, Chuck lived his entire life in the community he loved and called home.
A graduate of Sumner High School, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. His identity as a veteran remained a deep source of honor for him throughout his life. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Sandell, his uncle John Whalen, his younger brother Chris Sandell, his nephew Brian Sandell, and his nieces Mary Megan Ronayne and Catherine Rider.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Cindy Sandell of Puyallup, Washington, and his two stepchildren, Brian Tilley of Puyallup and Shannon Tilley-Seymour (Rick Seymour) of Puyallup, whom he cherished as his own. Chuck’s greatest joy was his only grandchild, Lincoln, age 12. He is also remembered by his siblings and their families: Linda (Mark) Ronayne of Vancouver, Washington, and their six children; Kenn Sandell (Pam Sturgeon) of Burien, Washington, and their two children; Jan (Duncan) McCallie of Anacortes, Washington, and their three children; sister-in-law Betsy Sandell of Lake Havasu and their four children; Joanne (Russ) Hazelton of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and their three children; Cathy (Harry) Kontorowicz of Puyallup, Washington, and their five children; Vernon (Lisa) Sandell of Louisville, Kentucky; and Bill (Eileen) Sandell of Bonney Lake, Washington, and their three children. In all, Chuck’s legacy includes 31 nieces and nephews and 50 great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by Uncle John’s partner, Gary Nelson of Rancho Mirage, California, as well as the McGowans, the Quitslunds, the Webers, the Tilleys, and Cindy’s family, all of whom embraced him fully and shared many warm family gatherings.
Chuck devoted more than five decades to the transportation and logistics industry, retiring in 2017. He formed many lasting friendships that grew into family-like bonds. Known for his deep kindness, he was always willing to help others, often described as someone who would give the shirt off his back. His easygoing nature, warmth, and generosity touched everyone who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
