Cathy Sue Gibson

Cathy Sue Gibson, 67, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away on March 10, 2026, at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born on March 22, 1958, in Kingsport, she was the daughter of the late Stewart Griffin and Edith Clifton Griffin.

Cathy spent her career with Sullivan County Schools and Quebecor, formerly known as Kingsport Press. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Ray Gibson; her son and great-grandson, Ashton Reid Forrester; her sisters, Wilma Jones, Brenda Berry, Janice Qualls, and Judy Griffin; and her brothers, Johnny Griffin and Billy Joe Griffin.

She is survived by her daughter, Stacey, and son-in-law, Justin Riggs, of Kingsport; her bonus children, Carla and Kenny Kime of Wabash, Indiana, and Jimmy Doyle Gibson of Wabash; her grandchildren, David Forrester, Ashley Forrester and Patrick Hyatt, Bailey Riggs, Kelsey and Dylan Barrett, Britany and April Cox, Josh Kime, Cody Gibson, Cameron Gibson, Jadyn Gibson, and Jaci Gibson; and her great-grandchildren, Kyndall Hyatt, Stella Hyatt, Paislee Forrester, Samuel Barrett, Landon Forrester, Cheyenne Kime, Caydence Kime, Harper Kime, and Lilianna Kime. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley McDavid of Gate City, Virginia; her brothers, Jerry and Myrtle Griffin and Herman and Mary Griffin, both of Kingsport; her sisters-in-law, Diane Griffin of Kingsport, Almeda Lawson of Gate City, Mary Stephens of Wabash, Patsy Beavers of Honeybrook, Pennsylvania, and Doris McConnell of Gate City; her special niece, Debbie Weems of Baileyton, Tennessee; her inherited daughters, Tina Amos and Melisha Christian, who cared for her as her family physician; her longtime friends, Louise Taylor, Sheila Meade, Kim Robinette, and Sandy Howe; and her beloved pets, Cleo, Molly, Ruger, Pearl, and Luna, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
