Martins Ferry, OH
Cathy Ann Santonas, a dedicated educator and beloved family matriarch, passed away on March 12, 2026. Born in Martins Ferry to the late Bill and Bettie Lou (Metcalfe) Santonas, Cathy devoted her life to nurturing others, both in the classroom and within her family.
For more than 40 years, she taught at Glen Dale Elementary, where she served not only as a teacher but as a mentor, confidante, and steady presence in the lives of countless children. Inspired by her favorite literary character, Mrs. Wishy-Washy, Cathy approached every child with patience, grace, and the belief that everyone deserved a fresh start. She saw potential in every situation and helped her students grow with kindness and unwavering support.
Outside the classroom, Cathy was the heart of her family. To her nieces and nephews, she was a second mother who loved them as her own. She was their trusted friend and advisor, offering guidance and a steady, loving presence that shaped their lives.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Bettie Lou (Metcalfe) Santonas, her brother David Santonas, her infant sister Alexa, and her brother-in-law Steve Morris. She is survived by her sister Mary Lou Morris, her sister-in-law Cindy Santonas, and her nieces and nephews Lauren (and her wife Sarah), Chris (and his wife Ali), Jordan (and his wife Claire), Jacob (and his wife Jade), and Kate. She also leaves behind her great-nieces and great-nephews Finley, Sophie, Harper, Byron, Henry, Monroe, Sawyer, Delaney, and Dailey, who brought her immense joy.
