Catherine Richert

Catherine Lynne Richert, 66, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away on March 12, 2026, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Born in Decatur on October 21, 1959, to Floyd and Ethel Scranton, Cathy graduated from MacArthur High School and later attended Richland Community College. In 1990, she married Mark Richert, and together they built a life centered on family and community. She dedicated 25 years to her work with Decatur Public Schools before retiring.

Cathy cherished her time as a grandmother, finding great joy in the lives of her grandchildren. She also loved traveling and remained a devoted follower of sports, particularly the St. Louis Cardinals. Her warm and steady presence left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Keagan (Destinee) Richert; grandchildren, Brylee, Elsie, Myles, and Sylvie; her mother, Ethel Scranton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael Chervinko, Anne Richert, Wanda Rokosh (Fred), and Donnie Richert (Lyndi); and many nieces and nephews.

Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Richert; her father, Floyd Scranton; her sister, Lois Chervinko; her grandson, Klay Richert; and her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Connie and Rusty Vording, and Terry Richert.
