Catherine D. Peggs

Catherine D. Peggs, 102, of Canton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10th after a brief hospital stay. Born on February 8, 1924, in Canton, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Ayers Denesha. A graduate of Canton Central High School in 1941, Catherine began her working life at the Queensboro Milk Plant in Gouverneur before embarking on a 38-year career in the business office at St. Lawrence University.

In August 1955, she married John J. Toomey, who passed away unexpectedly in 1973. In June 1991, she married Richard J. Peggs. Catherine was predeceased by both of her husbands, as well as her brother Jack, her sister Bette, and Fred Geier.

She is survived by her nephew Tom Gilmore and his wife Joy, her niece Patty Geier, her stepson David Peggs and his wife Jean, stepdaughters Cindy and Nancy Peggs, granddaughters Courtney Collins and Ashley Peggs, great-grandchildren Makenna, Quinn, and Luke, and several nephews. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to Bill and Ginger Mason, Molly Powers, Kaitlin Corscadden, and Ron Aldous for their many years of devoted care, which allowed Catherine to remain in her own home throughout her later life.
