Cassie Robinson ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Yancey Funeral Services - Burnsville on Mar. 17, 2026.Cassie "Opal" Robinson, age 95, of Green Mountain, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2026. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of Noah and Ruby Riddle Robinson. She was preceded in death by four siblings: Pansy Silvers, Lillian "Hazel" Franklin, William "Clyde" Robinson and Shirley Marie Silvers. She is survived by brothers: Dewey Robinson of Greeneville, TN, Ernest "Lesley" Robinson (Terry) of Mars Hill, NC, Warren Robinson (Donna) of Burnsville, NC and Edward "Eddie" Robinson (Judy) of Burnsville, NC. A brother-in-Law, Earl Silvers of Green Mountain, NC. Many nieces and nephews also survive.Lovingly known as Aunt Opal to hosts of nieces and nephews spanning 3 generations she was always happiest when surrounded by her family. Though Aunt Opal never married or had her own children she certainly filled the role of "mother" and "grandmother" to many. Aunt Opal was a caretaker, caring for her mother "Maw Ruby" in her later years and helping to care for her siblings and their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren whenever she could. She never missed the chance to hold a baby or fix a meal for any family that stopped by for a visit while she was able. Shirley and Opal shared a close bond, wherever one was the other was not far away. They were inseparable and lived together, always looking after one another until Shirley passed away in March 2025.Aunt Opal loved collecting lighthouses and other "what nots" of animals. She was also known for saving decorative napkins as a keepsake from the many weddings, baby showers, and birthday parties she attended. She loved to "work" her word search book and could often be found sitting with Shirley on the front porch on warm evenings stringing green beans.A memorial to remember the life of Aunt Opal will be held later date. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Pruitt Health Home First CAP, Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, Beverly Peterson, and Frances Silvers for the wonderful care given to her. Also, special recognition to her nieces Karen McKinney and Sharon Sullivan who cared for her daily so that she and Shirley could spend their final years together at home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge at 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
