Cary Jones ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Duyck & VanDeHey Funeral Home - Forest Grove on Mar. 10, 2026.Cary Earl Jones, passed away in his home in Oregon City, March 5th, 2026 at the age of 68.Born in Portland Oregon, June 30th 1957, Cary was the third child of Vernon and Viola (Ellis) Jones. He was raised in North Portland and graduated from Roosevelt High School, class of 1975. While still in high school, he enrolled as a delayed enlistment in the United States Coast Guard and proceeded to serve for 26 and a half years before retiring as a Yeoman Senior Chief in 2001.Cary met his future wife, Linda McIver, while on leave, February 14th, 1977. They met and dated briefly before he was deployed again, but continued to court each other writing letters. Eight months later on October 15th 1977, they would be married in Vancouver Washington. Later they learned they had been married in the same room as Linda's Mother and Father.For the next 24 years Cary and Linda travelled and lived in service of the Coast Guard in Seattle, Juneau, North Bend, Oregon, and Sacramento. In 2001 when Cary retired from the Coast Guard they settled in Oregon City, to be near both their families. Cary continued however, to work, now at the Portland Veteran Affairs Hospital. There he worked closely to direct veteran's issues to the appropriate parties for resolution.Cary enjoyed woodworking, cars, guitars, golfing, and fishing. He worked to restore old cars often, and even had his grandfather's Oldsmobile 88. He enjoyed country music and classic rock. Cary and Linda enjoyed square dancing and spending time with friends and family. They spent a lot of time traveling to the Oregon coast, as well as trips to Costa Rica and Hawaii.He is preceded in death by his parents.He is survived by his loving spouse, Linda, his son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Jessica Jones of Hillsboro, his sister, Vicky Torres of Gresham, his brother and his partner Gerry Jones and Rhonda Khlafa of St Helens, as well as many nieces and nephews.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
