October 20, 1945— March 13, 2026
Honaker, VA
Carson Curtis “Dickie” Lowe, age 80, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on March 13, 2026. Born on October 20, 1945, in Raven, Virginia, he was the son of the late Roby and Mimie Salyers Lowe. A lifelong resident of Honaker, Dickie grew up working on the family farm, where he developed the strong work ethic and sense of dedication that defined him throughout his life.
He served his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, attaining the rank of E-4, and often spoke fondly of his time stationed in Alaska. After his military service, Dickie became a member of the UMWA and worked 32 years as a coal miner. He held various positions at Clinchfield, Lambert Fork 1 and 2, and McClure 2, including Mining Electrician, Roof Bolter, General Inside, and Fire Boss. He took great pride in his career and the skills he mastered underground.
Dickie had a deep love for the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, and especially gardening. Family and friends often joked that while others had a green thumb, Dickie had green toes—his gardens flourished abundantly, and he delighted in sharing the harvest with those around him. He was known as a kind-hearted man who was quick to lend a helping hand, loved to joke and tease those he cared about, and brought laughter and warmth to every gathering. His generosity, strong work ethic, and good humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Leonard A. Lowe, John Lowe, Loraine Smith, Hazel Lester, and Noah Harris. Dickie is survived by his loving wife of thirty-three years, Geneva Sutherland Lowe; his children, Teresa Ball and husband Gary of Newberry, South Carolina, Stephanie Jacobs and husband David of Salem, Virginia, and Karen Lowe of Lebanon; his step-children, Rhonda Perkins and husband Doug of Honaker and Randy Helton of Bluefield, Virginia; his siblings, Nina Meade and husband Thurston and Roby Lowe, Jr. and wife Glenda; sister-in-law Maggie Harris; his grandchildren, Brook Rikard, Evan Jacobs, Adren Jacobs, Megan Helton, Lindsay Helton, Jessie Helton, Grant Perkins, Ethan Helton, and Gavin Helton; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who will always cherish his memory.
