Carolyn Thesing, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the age of 89 at her residence in Reinbeck, Iowa, surrounded by her family. Born on January 15, 1937, she dedicated her life to her family, her faith, and her community, leaving behind a legacy of love and service.
As a farm wife, Carolyn worked alongside her late husband, Charles Thesing, nurturing both the land and their family. Together they raised a close-knit family, instilling values of hard work, kindness, and generosity in their children. She took great pride in the family she and Charles created, and her greatest joys centered on their successes and happiness.
A graduate of Grundy Center High School, class of 1954, Carolyn was known for her generous spirit and servant’s heart. She radiated warmth and kindness in every interaction, her strong faith and deep love for her family evident to all who knew her. Her infectious smile and enveloping hugs left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Carolyn found joy in gardening, quilting, and baking, as well as playing games and spending time with her family. She faithfully attended her grandchildren’s sporting events, cheering them on with quiet pride, and remained thoughtful in remembering birthdays and anniversaries.
She is survived by her children, Jeff (Kim) Thesing, Laura (Larry) Houghton, Mark (Angie) Thesing, and Julie Harberts; grandchildren Jeremy (Erica) Thesing, Tara Thesing, Matt (Brooke) Thesing, Justin Thesing, Dirk (Shaina) Thesing, Brynn (James) Prier, Colton (Hailey) Harberts, Rosa Houghton, Christian Houghton, Ricardo Houghton, Teralynn (Drew) Christian, Chad (Britani) Houghton, and Aaron Houghton; and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Doug (Connie) Kruse, her sister Charlotte Bakker, and her sister-in-law Barb Kruse.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thesing; her brother Robert Kruse; brothers-in-law LuVerne Bakker and Bud Henze; and sister-in-law Gloria Henze.
