Carolyn Sue Clevenger

Murphysboro, IL

Carolyn Sue Goolsby Clevenger was born to John Junior Goolsby and Frieda Ann Rose Goolsby on December 13, 1956, and passed away on March 7, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles Ray, and her beloved pet Buzzy of 17 years. She is survived by her husband Jake, their two sons Jacob and Caleb, extended family, and many friends, including her special friend Jenny.

Carolyn was a true free spirit with a love of life and an infectious sense of humor. She met the world with a warm smile and a gentle, quiet soul that made her wonderfully comfortable to be around. Kind, decent, and caring, she accepted people as they were and created space for them to be real. Though she could be fierce when needed, she preferred to remain in the background, quietly enjoying the show rather than seeking center stage.

Those who knew her best often thought of her as part of a duo. At work she was “Carolyn and Bessie,” close with her cousin, but everywhere else she was simply “Jake and Carolyn.” Their marriage was a rare and genuine partnership built on honesty; they called each other out, supported one another, and thrived together while raising their two children.

In her final years, even as illness limited her, Carolyn continued to love her family and friends, finding reasons to smile and laugh. She remained comfortable in her own skin, touching the lives of others until the very end. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
