Carolyn Bruce ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory - Ball on Mar. 7, 2026.Carolyn Sue Bruce, age 76, peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of March 6, 2026, in the comfort of her beautiful home on Black River Lake, surrounded by the love of her family and her devoted husband of 61 years, George Bruce.Carolyn was born on May 15, 1949, in Jena, Louisiana, to her parents, Burl Jackson "Bob" Cockerham and Vivian Loudustamona Allen Cockerham. She spent many years in Georgetown, Louisiana, where she built a life centered around faith, family, and unwavering devotion. Later in life, she and George retired to their cherished home on Black River Lake, where many memories were made with children, grandchildren, and friends.Carolyn was a strong and beautiful woman who loved her family fiercely. She was the kind of lady who stood firmly for those she loved and was never afraid to speak her mind. If you had Carolyn in your corner, you knew you had someone who would stand with you through anything. She was a faithful wife and devoted partner to George for more than six decades. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Along with the joy they found in their home in Central Louisiana, Carolyn and George loved hunting and fishing together and taking many road trips out West with their children, creating memories that would last a lifetime. They also enjoyed traveling farther from home, including special trips to Hawaii and almost yearly visits to their beloved Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains.Carolyn was also a wonderful and loving mother to her three children. One of her greatest priorities in life was passing down a love for the Lord and teaching His ways to her family. Her faith quietly shaped the home she created and the legacy she leaves behind. She loved to stay busy and took great pride in caring for her home and family. Carolyn enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, and keeping everything neat and tidy. She was well known for her famous peanut butter cakes, which were requested and enjoyed by many who loved her cooking. If you stopped by her home, you would likely find her sitting in her chair with a basket of crocheting supplies close by, a bowl of salt water taffy within reach, and a heart full of love for whoever walked through the door. And for those who knew her well, there was also the legendary and carefully guarded candy stash hidden in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator. Many family members attempted to sneak a piece or two over the years, but Carolyn kept a very close eye on that inventory.Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Burl Jackson "Bob" Cockerham and Vivian Loudustamona Allen Cockerham; her siblings Richard Cockerham, Robert Cockerham, Wayne Cockerham, and Sandra Cockerham Cline; and her beloved grandson, Bradley Bruce. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, George Bruce of Jonesville, Louisiana.
