Carolyn S. McClure

Carolyn S. McClure

June 4, 1944 March 10, 2026

Harrison, OH

Carolyn S. McClure, born on June 4, 1944, in Cleves, Ohio, to Danny and Leona (nee Kelly) Smith, passed away peacefully at her home in Harrison, Ohio, on March 10, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by her loving family.

Carolyn was a devoted wife to her high school sweetheart, Ray McClure, whom she married on May 23, 1964. Together they created a warm and loving home while raising their three children. She was deeply committed to her family, supporting her children through every stage of life, from attending PTA meetings and volunteering at school events to serving as their trusted confidante. As her children grew, she became a beloved childcare provider for her grandchildren and many children in the community. Family holidays were especially dear to her, particularly Easter, where her legendary egg hunts and famous deviled eggs brought joy to generations gathered around her table. In her later years, she found happiness cheering for her grandchildren at sporting events, sharing Friday night dinners with her sisters and brother-in-law, and taking quiet drives through familiar landscapes while reminiscing about her childhood and the changes in her hometown.

A woman of quiet service and deep commitment, Carolyn was an active member of the First Christian Church and the Eastern Star. Within the Eastern Star she held several leadership roles, including serving as Worthy Matron seven times, Deputy Grand Matron in 2000, and being named Grand Martha for the State of Ohio in 2008. In recognition of her many contributions, the town of Harrison dedicated June 24, 2008, as “Carolyn McClure Day.”

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ray McClure; her children, Matt (Amanda) McClure, Danielle (Craig) Rolfes, and Cyndi (Ryan) Hoerst; her grandchildren, Aaron, Savannah, Hunter, Brennan, Micayla, and Rylee; her siblings, Charlotte “Choddy” (Rodney) Adams, Marilyn “Sue” Whitaker, Warren “Kenny” (Teresa) Smith, and Sherrie (Pete) Britton; and her in-laws, Jeff Dobbelhoff, Linda Smith, Donna (Ron) Kinnett, and Robert (Candy) McClure. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Wayne (Anna) Smith, Phyllis (Roy) Davis, Myrna (Robert) Dill, Walter “Butch” (Helen) Smith, William “Billy” Smith (Carrie), Wallace “Wally” Smith, and Winston “Lee” Smith, as well as her brother-in-law Ronnie Whitaker.
