Lula, GA
Carolyn Ruth Krieger Caskey of Lula, Georgia, died peacefully in her sleep on March 5, 2026, after a ten-year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 81. A devoted wife, mother, and elementary school teacher, Carolyn touched many lives through her kindness, curiosity, and joyful presence. An avid gardener and birder, she found great pleasure in playing the piano and studying botany, archaeology, and anthropology.
Born to the late Christopher Eugene Krieger and Margaret Bowen, Carolyn grew up in Decatur, Georgia. She graduated from Avondale High School in 1962 and from the Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College & State University) in 1966. She taught grades one through five for many years in DeKalb County, Georgia, and Lexington, South Carolina.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Don Caskey; her children, Jennifer Kenne and her husband Gabe, Julie Laintz and her husband Jesse, and Jonathan Davis and his wife Gretchen Nordstrom; her stepsons Todd, Chris, Adam, and Matthew Caskey; her grandchildren, Raelyn Laintz, Oscar Davis, and Clara Davis; and her step-grandchildren, MaKenna, Caden, and Kai Caskey. She is also survived by her siblings Suzanne Krieger, Steven Krieger, Kenneth Krieger and his wife Sue, their three children and six grandchildren, and Phillip Krieger and his wife Donna, their four children and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Nathan Davis.
Carolyn was lovingly supported by several lifetime friends, the caregivers of Northeast Georgia Health System’s hospice and palliative care teams, her personal companion and caregiver Aurora Perera, and many others who came often to assist her.
