Carolyn "Kay" {Upchurch} Cyc, age 84, passed away on February 26, 2026. Kay was born in Akron, Ohio on January 24, 1942 to William Elmer and Martha Pauline Upchurch. One of three daughters, Kay grew up in North Hill and attended North High School graduating in 1960.

Kay most loved being a stay-at-home mom, later working the front desk at both Eastgate Pro Bowl and Stonehedge Bowling Center, then as a receptionist at various car dealerships. She was forever proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved displaying pictures of them throughout her home.

Kay was a member of the Akron Christian Reform Church for many years. Throughout her life she had countless friendships, spent many hours in a good book, enjoyed playing cards, and loved cheering on the Cavaliers and Guardians.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Joy Ellen Speck (Bob) and Sara Jane Bauers, grandmother Edna Mae Griffith and grandson, Billy King. She will be deeply missed by her five children, Bill (Joy), Cindy (Dale) Murphy, Sherry (Jim) Weber, Steve (Julie) and Michael (Erica). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Tiffani, Joshua, Matthew, Rebecca, Sarah, Rachel, Megan, Nathaniel, Emily, Kaeden, Mallory and Rea. Five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Allison, Olivia, Ginavieve and Kane.

She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Willow. The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to her caregiver, Pam Barker, as they had a special bond.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 12th from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., followed by a service at 12:00 p.m., all at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305. A committal service will follow at the mausoleum chapel at Rose Hill Burial Park, where Kay will be laid to rest.
