July 23, 1930— March 11, 2026
Meridian, MS
Carolyn Jones was born in Meridian, Mississippi, on July 23, 1930, to George and Beulah Askew. She attended Oakland Heights Elementary, Kate Griffin Junior High, and Meridian High School. In 1951, she married the love of her life, Jack Jones, and together they raised three children: Andy, Amos, and Carrie.
A devoted housewife and stay-at-home mother, Carolyn taught swimming lessons and lifesaving to thousands of children and adults. When Jefferson Davis Academy opened in 1965, she became its first bus driver and later worked in the lunchroom until her youngest child graduated. She also served as a lifeguard at the Moose Lodge Swimming Pool for many years. A lifelong member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy, she remained proud of her Southern heritage. After Jack’s death in 2001, she volunteered at Anderson’s hospital until 2019.
Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she lovingly called her Angel Babies. She cherished being known as Mamee.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Jones; her son, Amos Jones; her parents, George and Beulah Askew; her brother, George Askew; and her nephew, Luther “Jess” Askew. She is survived by her son Andy and his wife Jennifer; her daughter Carrie and her husband Lynn Latham; grandchildren Amy McDill (Dennis), William Hodges (Jessica), Rebecca Jones, and Sally Madison (Josh); great-grandchildren Eli, Emily, and Jack Hodges, Ava and Georgia Clarke, Connor and Alyssa McDill, and Charlotte Lyon; and her bonus great-grandchildren Troa and Hayden Madison, and Braden and Brooks Massey.
