Carolyn Jewell Gordon Hoggard, affectionately known as Jewell, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on June 16, 1941, in Buncombe County, North Carolina, Jewell was a devoted mother and homemaker whose creativity and tireless work touched many lives. A gifted quilter and business owner, she received the Erma Brock Award, the equivalent of a degree in Art and Design. Through her many talents, she designed and created numerous majorette and debette uniforms, coached majorettes, kept score for baseball, and served on the boards of the Tiny Greyhounds and South Little League. A faithful member of New Friendship Baptist Church, she lived a life marked by dedication to her community and deep love for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Wayne F. Gordon; her husband of 7 years, Henry Hoggard; her grandson, Cameron Gordon; and her sister, Libby Jones.

Jewell is survived by her son, Wayne Gordon and wife Susan of Davie County, North Carolina; her daughter, Kathy Hayes and husband Keith of Davidson County, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Greg Gordon, Kevin Boyles and wife Renee, and Brook Kerley and husband DJ; and two great-grandchildren, CK and McKinley Boyles. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Taylor and wife Myra; brother-in-law, Ronnie Jones; and extended family members including Donnie Hoggard and wife Pattie, Beverly Hoggard, Charlene Jones and husband Mike, along with their families. She will be remembered for her creativity, kindness, hard work, and abiding faith.
