Carolyn G. Whipple
April 20, 1940— March 11, 2026
Hampden, MA
Carolyn G. Whipple, a longtime resident of Hampden, passed away peacefully on March 11, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, to the late William Vernon and Mae (Harpin) Green, she was the beloved wife of the late Jim Whipple, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Carolyn was also predeceased by her daughter, Lynn Ann Whipple, and her sister, Verna Caney.
She is survived by her two sons, Jim and his wife Gina of Longmeadow, and David and his wife Jeannie of South Hadley. Carolyn spent 30 years working at Whip’s Sporting Goods, where she was beloved by customers who continued to ask about her for years afterward. She was known for her exceptional chocolate chip cookies and, above all, found her greatest joy in raising her family alongside Jim and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. An avid Red Sox fan, she cherished attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Carolyn leaves behind four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Jennifer (Whipple) House and her husband Tim, along with their daughters Emerson, Leah, and Harper of Okemos, Michigan; Matthew Whipple and his son Michael of Silver Spring, Maryland; Daniel Whipple, his wife Tyler, and their daughter Lily of Danvers, Massachusetts; and Laura (Whipple) Anderson, her husband Tim, and their sons Benjamin and Thomas of Belchertown, Massachusetts. She is also survived by her dearest friend of more than 65 years, Elaine Moore of East Longmeadow, along with Elaine’s family, and her niece, Karlene Kadra of Eastham, Massachusetts.
