Carolyn Dosher Gerding Price

September 1, 1934 March 10, 2026

Monroe, NC

Carolyn Dosher Gerding Price, 91, passed away on March 10, 2026, while residing at Atrium Health Center in Monroe, North Carolina.

Born on September 1, 1934, in Southport, North Carolina, Carolyn was the first child of Bryan and Woodrow Dosher. She grew up during the Depression and World War II in Southport and other small towns across southeastern North Carolina, where her father, a Baptist minister, pastored local congregations. She graduated from Wingate Junior College in 1955 and earned a B.A. in English from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee, in 1957. She later returned to Wingate College to teach English and serve as Dean of Women. There she met George Gerding, the Dean of Men and Director of Grounds and Maintenance. They married in 1962 and built a happy life in Wingate, where Carolyn devoted herself to raising their children, Melody and Glenn. George served as Mayor of Wingate for many years before his death in 1986 after a short battle with cancer.

In 1995 Carolyn met Hugh Price of Southport, North Carolina. They married in 1996, and she returned to the town of her childhood. She and Hugh spent many contented retirement years together there until his death in 2015, after which she moved to Monroe to be near family and friends.

Carolyn cherished her family and always encouraged them to pursue opportunities she never had. Deeply faithful, she lived her life for God and held firm to her belief in life after death. She will be remembered for her quiet politeness and genuine kindness toward others.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, her sister Ann Pope, her brother Clive Dosher, and two infant siblings. Carolyn is survived by her daughter Melody Millsaps and son-in-law Kent of Monroe, her son Glenn Gerding and daughter-in-law Alethea of Chapel Hill, her grandsons Graham and Jackson Gerding, and her sister Paulette Brown.
