CHAFFEE, MO — Carolyn “Carol” Ryan Cannon, 85, a lifelong resident of Chaffee, peacefully passed away Thursday, March 12th. Born August 4th, 1940, in Cape Girardeau to the late Evans H Ryan and Wanda Jones Ryan, she was a 1958 graduate of Chaffee High School.
In 1959, she married William (Bill) Cannon. The couple lived in St. Louis for a period before returning to Chaffee, where Carol remained an active member of the community.
Carol was known for her diverse interests and deep community involvement. She served as a Girl Scout leader and was an active member of the Chaffee Alumni Association. She also served her community by working at the election polls and was a member of the daughters of the American Revolution.
She shared her love for local history and tradition by hosting holiday tours at the Glenn House during the Christmas season. A gifted stained-glass artist, she created many beautiful pieces throughout her life. She was passionate about genealogy and traveling and was an avid reader. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to those who supported Carol in her final years. They would like to specifically thank the caregivers at Newbridge Retirement Community and the team at Mercy Hospice for their compassionate and dedicated care, which provided great comfort to Carol and her loved ones.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Bob Ryan and John Ryan.
Those who will cherish her memory include one sister-in-law, Judith Ryan of Springfield; two daughters, Karen Cannon Brown of Jackson, and Kathi (Tim) Stone of Cape Girardeau; and one son, Chris (Pam) Cannon of Cape Girardeau.
Carol was loved by 6 grandchildren: Kori (Travis) Skidmore of Springfield, Kari Stone of San Diego, CA, Caitlin (Jake) Hayward of DeWitt, IA, Alex Stone of Bentonville, AR, Madison (Christian) Ritchie of Dayton, MT, and Mackenzie (Matthew) Salzani of Montreal, Quebec; and four great-grandchildren: Gage Skidmore, Miles Hayward, Merrick Hayward, and Gemma Hayward.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 18th, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Amick Burnett Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will begin Thursday, March 19th, at 10:00 AM at the chapel. Burial to follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Chaffee Historical Society.
