Carolyn Annette Walters Crowe

LaFollette, TN

Carolyn Annette Walters Crowe, 88, of LaFollette, passed away on the morning of March 10 at Morning Pointe in Powell. Born in Vonore, Tennessee, she moved as a child to LaFollette, where her father, Wheeler Walters, established Walters Funeral Home and the family lived above the business. Carolyn possessed a fine soprano voice and enjoyed participating in musical events, winning several competitions. She graduated from LaFollette High School in 1954 and attended Carson-Newman College and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

While out with friends one evening at the Richie Kreme, she met Roger Crowe, a recent Tennessee Tech graduate, and they married in October 1957. Carolyn’s love of travel led her to follow Roger to jobs in Charlotte, Miami, and eventually Chattanooga, where they raised their two daughters. For many years she worked as a preschool teacher and volunteered with her church’s vacation Bible school and her daughters’ Girl Scout troops. In 1983, Carolyn and Roger returned to LaFollette, where they remained active members of the LaFollette United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wheeler and Mildred Walters of LaFollette, and by her husband, Roger Crowe, in 2017. Carolyn is survived by her sister, Marjorie Rutledge of Gray, Tennessee; her daughters, Rev. Brynne Crowe of Knoxville and Susan Collier (Mark) of Knoxville; and her two grandsons, Jackson and Isaac of Knoxville.

Her daughters express deep gratitude to Renee and Jeff Guy for their devoted care of their mother over many years, especially after the loss of their father, as well as to the staff at Morning Pointe and the UT Hospice team for the attentive support they provided. A graveside service will be held later this spring.
