Caroline M. Hall, 90, of Grayling, Michigan and North Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
Born February 27, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the only child of Phyllis and Charles Long. The family moved to Grayling when she was five, and she graduated from Grayling High School in 1954. In 1956 she married William “Fritz” Golnick, and together they raised five children. Caroline held various jobs, including owning the Grayling Dairy Queen, but she especially enjoyed her work with the State of Michigan in the Bingo and Lottery division, from which she retired. She found joy in reading, crocheting, playing bingo, attending theater and concerts, yet her greatest pleasures were traveling and cruising. She explored much of the United States, Canada, and China with friends and family, and cruised to Mexico and Europe with two of her daughters, fulfilling a longtime dream of seeing the windmills of the Netherlands. Above all, her deepest love was for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and for her children.
Divorced in 1977, she later married Roger Hall in 1986. The couple moved to North Fort Myers, Florida, where they lived for approximately twenty-five years.
Caroline was preceded in death by both of her husbands, her son-in-law Michael J. Shively, her granddaughter Heather M. King, and her great-grandson Troy R. King. She is survived by her five children, Cheryl (Mark) Timmerman of Elgin, Illinois and Bokeelia, Florida, LuAnn (Scott Haddock) Shively of Crystal River, Florida, Charles “Chuck” Golnick of Grayling, Patti (Ed Baynham) Golnick of Grayling, and Barbara “Barb” (Otto) Zimmerman of Chiefland, Florida; her grandchildren and step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson; and her lifelong dear friend Rita McEvers.
