Carole J. Miller

September 27, 1949 March 12, 2026

Huron, SD

Carole J. Miller, age 76, of Huron, South Dakota, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket.

Born Carole Jean Sheridan on September 27, 1949 in Huron to Gerald and Grace (Wessels) Sheridan, she graduated from Huron High School in 1968. Following in the footsteps of her three older brothers, including her twin brother Darrell, she enlisted in the United States Army. She trained as an air traffic controller and served in the control tower at Fort Lewis, Washington, where she cherished the opportunity to visit the Navy ship on which Darrell was serving.

After an honorable discharge, Carole returned to Huron and built a career in the trucking industry. She began by loading and unloading cattle at Bale’s Continental Commission Company with the help of her beloved Sheltie, Tina, before becoming a driver for Payne Transportation. She enjoyed the independence of long-haul trips, often driving solo to California and back. While working, she met fellow truck driver Doug Miller. The couple married and welcomed a daughter, Rebecca Grace, named after Carole’s mother and grandmother. After their divorce, Carole and Rebecca moved in with her grandmother to help care for her.

A longtime member of First United Methodist Church, later known as Faith Alive Community Church, Carole found joy in teaching Sunday school and helping in the nursery. She also loved bowling, camping, fishing, and crocheting. Above all, she was a devoted caretaker who looked after many family members throughout her life. For the last eight years she resided at Prairie View Care Center, where her family remains deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff and Avera Hospice team.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Andrew) Champion of Texas; grandchildren Ashton, Tatum, and Preston; twin brother Darrell (Cindy) Sheridan of Huron; brother Gary (Vickie) Sheridan of Italy, Texas; sister-in-law Peggy Sheridan; brother-in-law Bill Fast; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Jane Fast, and brother Gerry Sheridan.
