Carol Sue Frahm

Carol Sue Frahm, age 87, of Miles, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 15, 2026. Born on June 9, 1938, in Clinton, Iowa, she was the daughter of Walden and Marien (Flemming) Schultz. She grew up in Miles, where she discovered a talent for baton twirling and performed as a young girl at Soldier Field. In high school, she chose Robert Frahm from a yearbook photo, and they married on July 20, 1958, in Miles. They shared 66 years of marriage until Robert’s passing in 2025.

Carol earned a four-year degree from Marycrest College in Davenport and taught for more than 25 years, primarily as a fifth-grade teacher in the Miles and East Central school districts, retiring in 1998. A passionate advocate for literacy, she encouraged both her students and her own children to read widely and visit the library often. Her faith and community involvement were central to her life. A lifelong member of the Miles Presbyterian Church, she sang in the choir, participated in Mariners, and was a longtime member of Presbyterian Women. She also contributed to her community through the Antiquers and as a leader for the Miles Meadowlarks 4-H club.

In her later years, Carol remained active and social. She belonged to the Maquoketa Country Club and the Preston Women’s Golf Club, participated for more than 20 years in a walking club she fondly called “The Turtles,” and regularly joined bridge groups. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and cross-stitch. Those who knew her remember a woman who lit up a room, always seeking out those who needed help and cherishing the many friendships she built over the decades.

Above all, Carol treasured her family. She was a proud and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose grandchildren brought her great joy. She delighted in creating special moments and memories with them that will be cherished forever. She is survived by her daughters, Sheralyn (Daniel) Bartels of Clinton and Leah (Dennis) Robinson of Neosho, Missouri; sons, Gary (Tracy) Frahm and Michael Frahm, both of Miles; nine grandchildren, Nicole, Janine, Beth, Matt, Dyllan, Jaime, Cache, Trane, and Malachi; five great-grandchildren, Norah, Atticus, Ronin, Declan, and Riley; and her siblings, Larry (Cindy) Schultz of Clinton and Linda (Larry) Kline of Fairborn, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her parents, Walden and Marien.
